A Life Saved

With clickbait like that, I’d better give you the best story of the day first ;)

We had a gentleman come in today who had been in an explosion and had gotten a nasty burn on his leg and lots of metal embedded. The burn was looking okay, and there was no more shrapnel left, but a major infection had started around the burn. It took up around eight inches of his thigh and was oozing and very hot to the touch. (Photo at the end if you want to see, but at the end so I don’t surprise you with it ;))

The triage team caught it right away and we called Jim, our national partner, over and he called an ambulance. They rushed him to the hospital to start IV antibiotics. When we got back to the hotel a little while ago, Jim let us know that they’re running tests and he got visited by the ortho and will have the full work up and he completely taken care of at the hospital. Our team passed around the proverbial hat and will be able to cover any and all procedures this man needs. Our doctors agreed, if this wasn’t caught and treated, he would be dead in 24 hours.

But the Lord had his village on our schedule today and entrusted us with him for a short time and we are so grateful he came when he did and where he did. God is so good even in the midst of crisis.

Other interventions were made and lives were changed today through the work of all the people who we get to serve with every single day of this trip :)

We had two local dentists helping us part of the day today which tripled the pressure pot load so we had two going at all times. And it was pouring rain today, so I stayed quite sticky ;)

In the afternoon, I helped in triage (where I met the man with the infected leg) and got to play with some cute kids, which is always a bonus! Our team is working so well together in all aspects, and it’s been great to watch the ebb and flow of people stepping in and filling gaps as needed.

Tomorrow morning I ✨might✨ get to go to one of the far mountain villages and help instal some water filters, which I’m very excited for! And then hopefully we will wrap up the teaching portion of class in the afternoon!

Please be praying for the man with the infection (names will remain anonymous) and for Carol, who is still sick. Deana is feeling much better and will be coming to clinic tomorrow! But Sam may have come down with something and went home early. So we did more “musical rooms” prayers for health for everyone on the team would be greatly appreciated!!

Here’s your warning: gross wound picture if you keep scrolling…

Okay Hunter, I’ll show you ;)
